Restoring Device over USB

Getting Started

Sometimes the Stat Temp monitors will malfunction and will be in need of a factory reset. To do a factory reset, follow the steps below.

Plug your device into your computer's USB port with the power cord provided with your Stat Temp monitor.

Listening Mode

If your monitor is not flashing BLUE

**Some of the monitors haven’t connected to Wi-Fi for a while and will have different firmware, so getting them into listening mode is a little different. The first thing you're going to do is insert a paper clip into the bottom pinhole on the left side (above the LED) and hold it. It will turn BLUE, then it will either stay BLUE or turn MAGENTA. Follow the steps below to get it connected.**

If it turns MAGENTA, immediately release the paper clip, then:

  • When the light starts to flash GREEN, re-insert a paperclip into the bottom pinhole and hold. It will start flashing BLUE, wait until it rapidly flashes BLUE (about 8 seconds) then release. It will go back to regularly flashing BLUE.
  • If it flashes YELLOW, you will need to reset the monitor (paperclip in the top pinhole).

If it stays BLUE:

  • hold until the light turns BLUE and starts to flash rapidly (about 8 seconds), and release the paper clip.
  • Insert a paper clip into each pinhole. Release the paper clip in the top pinhole and hold the one in the bottom one until the LED flashes MAGENTA then immediately release. The light will go back to flashing BLUE.
    • **If it flashes YELLOW at all, you will have to reset the device and start over. To reset the device, insert a paper clip into the top pinhole and push and release.**

Factory Restoring your Monitor

Once your device is connected to your computer and is in Listening Mode, Go to the website: Device Restore over USB

  • On the website, you are gonna click ‘Select Device’
  • You should receive a popup on your screen with the option to select a p1 device. Select the p1 device and click ‘Connect’.
    • If you do not see a P1 option, ensure your device is turned on and fully connected to the computer.
  • For ‘Restore Type’ select Tinker (Factory Default)
  • For ‘Version’ select 1.4.4
  • Click 'Flash Device'
  • You may get another pop-up that asks you to grant permission to connect to the P1 device. Select your device and click ‘Connect’.
  • Your device will start to flash yellow, which means the computer is communicating with it.
  • The site will give you status indicators of the progress.
  • After this is complete, perform a reset. To do so, push a paper clip into the top pinhole on the left side (under the on/off toggle), and release.
  • Now your device should be blinking blue and you can begin the process of connecting your monitor to Wi-Fi using the SoftAP or iOS method below.

Connection Methods:

** This method will not work with hidden networks

SoftAP Method:

Open the internet browser on your mobile phone (Chrome is recommended) and go to SoftAP Setup (https://bit.ly/StatTempAP) (it is case sensitive)

  • After you have opened the website, open your Wi-Fi settings, and connect to the network that starts with Photon-XXXXXX.
  • Once it connects, go back to the SoftAP website, and click 'Next'.
  • On the next screen, you will see a box with the device's serial number grayed out and a prompt to scan for Wi-Fi networks. Click 'Scan'.
  • From the list of available networks, choose the one you want to connect to and enter the password (if there is one). Click 'Connect'.
  • Click 'Close' and close the website once your device is slowly blinking a light blue color. You are now connected to Wi-Fi!
  • Once the monitor is connected to Wi-Fi, it will flash purple as it updates to the latest firmware.

After you finish the process of connecting to Wi-Fi, make sure you reset the monitor. To perform a reset, push a paper clip into the top pinhole on the left side (under the on/off toggle), and release.

Particle Application Method (iOS only):

If you are having issues connecting to Wi-Fi with the SoftAP website or are connecting to a hidden network, and have an iOS device, you can use the Particle IoT app to connect your Stat Temp monitor to Wi-Fi.

To connect to Wi-Fi with the Particle IoT, the LED should be blinking blue. If it is not (this requires two paper clips):

  • Insert a paper clip in the bottom pinhole and hold until the light turns darker blue and starts to flash rapidly (about 8 seconds), release the paper clip.
  • Insert a paper clip into each pinhole. Release the paper clip in the top pinhole and hold the one in the bottom one until the LED flashes purple then immediately release. The light will go back to flashing blue. If it flashes yellow at all, you will have to reset the device and start over. To reset the device, insert a paper clip into the top pinhole and push and release.

Next, open the App Store on your iOS device and download the Particle IoT application. The icon for the app is dark blue with an 8-point white star. Once downloaded, open the Particle IoT application.

*During this process, it may ask to grant permission to use your location and to access other devices on your network. Select yes for all permissions.

To connect to Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  • Click 'GET STARTED'
  • Click 'Skip Authentication'
  • Click 'Yes'
  • Click the + sign on the top right.
  • Click 'Photon'.
  • Go to your iOS device's Wi-Fi settings and connect to the Photon-XXXXXX network that is available. Once connected, return to the Particle IoT application, and click 'Ready'.
  • Select the network you are connecting to and enter your password.
    • If you are connecting to a hidden network; when prompted to select your Wi-Fi network, click the option at the bottom that says, 'My network is not listed'. It will allow you to type in your network name and connect that way. Network names are case-sensitive, so be careful to type them in exactly as it appears.

After you finish the process of connecting to Wi-Fi, make sure you reset the monitor. To perform a reset, push a paper clip into the top pinhole on the left side (under the on/off toggle), and release.
