How to Replace a Sensor

This guide will walk you through the process of replacing a sensor in the Stat Temp system. Replacing a sensor correctly ensures continuity in reporting and minimizes configuration steps.

Before You Begin

  • Add the new sensor to the website first.

You must add the replacement sensor before it can be selected during the replacement process.

  • Understand historical data behavior.

If you choose to retain historical data, the old sensor’s data will be linked to the new sensor for reporting purposes.

Note: This historical data will not appear on the new sensor’s graph on the Sensor Show page, but it will be included in exported reports.

Tips for a Smooth Replacement

  • When a new sensor is added, it automatically adopts the monitor name and sensor serial number.
  • If the sensor being replaced already has the correct name, group, environment policy, and notifications configured, you can copy these settings to the new sensor during replacement. This removes the need for extra setup.

How to Replace a Sensor

  1. Find the sensor from either the Dashboard or the Sensor Data Grid.
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the sensor and select Replace.
  3. In the Replace Sensor panel:
    • Review the current settings of the sensor being replaced.
    • Use the dropdown to select the replacement sensor.
    • The panel will display the settings of the new sensor for comparison.

Replacement Settings

When replacing a sensor, you will have the following options:

  • Retain Historical Data

Links the old sensor’s data to the new sensor for reporting purposes.

Note: The data will not appear on the new sensor’s history graph.

  • Copy Settings

Transfers the old sensor’s name, group, environment policy, and notification settings to the new sensor.

  • Make Changes to Sensor

After clicking Replace, you will be taken to the sensor edit screen, where you can modify the new sensor’s name, group, or settings before saving.

Completing the Replacement

Once you’ve reviewed your settings and selected the appropriate options, click Replace in the bottom-right corner of the panel to complete the process.
