WiFi Meshing

Firmware Requirement

Available only on monitors running v3.0 or higher firmware.

If you have version 2.7 or older, please email stattemp@gohcl.com for update information.

What Is WiFi Meshing?

WiFi meshing allows Stat Temp monitors to extend their network connection by communicating with nearby monitors instead of relying solely on a direct connection to a WiFi access point.

If a monitor is located far from the WiFi router, it can maintain connectivity by routing its data through another monitor with a stronger signal.

This ensures consistent operation across your facility, even in areas with weak WiFi coverage.

Key Benefits

  • Improves connectivity in low-signal areas.
  • Increases placement flexibility.
  • Maintains monitoring coverage without moving your WiFi router.

Requirements

  • Works only on 2.4 GHz WiFi networks.
  • All monitors in the mesh must be connected to the same 2.4 GHz network.
  • Mesh does not increase internet speed.
  • Mesh will only function when monitors are plugged into power (not running on battery).

When to Use WiFi Meshing

  • When some areas of your facility have weak or unreliable WiFi signals.
  • When monitors are in separate rooms or behind obstructions.
  • When there is no direct line-of-sight to the router.

Mesh Network Roles

  • Root: The monitor with the strongest signal to the WiFi router.
  • Leaf: Any monitor that connects to the Root instead of directly to the router.
  • If the Root begins running on battery, a new Root will be selected automatically.

Limitations

  • OTA (over-the-air) firmware updates do not work while mesh is enabled.
    • If an update is pending, disable mesh before updating, then re-enable it afterward.
  • Mesh cannot bridge across different WiFi networks or guest networks with isolation enabled.

Placement Tips

  • Place at least one monitor with a strong signal near the router to act as the Root.
  • Keep mesh-connected monitors within a reasonable range (e.g., within the same building and preferably under 50–75 ft from another monitor for best reliability).

How to Enable WiFi Meshing

  1. Power on the monitor.
  2. Press the white and black buttons on top of the monitor to open the device menu.
  3. Use the white button to scroll to Toggle WiFi Mesh.
  4. Press the black button to select.
  5. The monitor will restart.
  6. Verify mesh is enabled: the linked ovals icon in the top-left corner will not have a cross through it.

How to Disable WiFi Meshing

  1. Power on the monitor.
  2. Press the white and black buttons on top of the monitor to open the device menu.
  3. Use the white button to scroll to Toggle WiFi Mesh.
  4. Press the black button to select.
  5. The monitor will restart.
  6. Verify mesh is disabled: the linked ovals icon in the top-left corner will have a cross through it.
